The Chain Reaction of a Dominos Effect - AussieEmma

Posted by Kathryn Prescott on 07 Apr 2010 | 0 comments

The opening sequence of a girl killing herself shows this season is going to be darker and more intense than previously seasons. It is not going to be smooth sailing for the skins gang whereas last season we left Effy, Freddie, Cook and JJ sailing down the river, Pandora and Thomas starting over whilst the couple known as Naomily had openly declared their love for each other. The whole gang are at a nightclub and completely oblivious to the girl who is going to cause a huge domino effect on all of their lives. The dominos set off a chain reaction and affects their lives in more ways than one starting with Thomas.

Thomas loses his way while struggling with his religious beliefs after the death of the girl at his club. The caring Thomas we have come to know disappears. Not only does he get expelled but also cheats on Pandora and this would be unthinkable to the old Thomas. The old Thomas eventually comes back but is it too late for him and Pandora?

Emily and Naomi blissfully in love and planning their future together. It looks like they couldn’t be any happier and nothing could tear them apart. That is until the domino effect reaches them. Naomi confesses she was the one that sold Sophia the drugs. Emily jumps to the conclusion that Naomi knows more about Sophia than what she is letting on. The domino effect continues to push Emily to dig for the truth and knocks her completely over. Naomi slept with Sophia. Does Emily forgive Naomi for breaking her heart?

The chain reaction of the dominos looks like it has helped Cook grow up. Cook acts out of control for the most part as he sits in jail for bashing up a random, he has to wear an ankle device and goes for a joy ride with his little brother while teaching him to smoke. On the outside Cook seems like nothing can faze as he splashes about but underneath his hard exterior there is a softer side. Cook shows us how much he really has grown up within the last few months as he takes responsibility for selling Sophia the drugs. Has Cook really changed?

Katie’s episode did not disappoint and was the highlight of the season. The chain reaction from the dominos doesn’t not affect Katie but she still has her own problems to deal with. Katie deals with the problems by herself now that Emily no longer lives in the Fitch house. Katie learns she will never be able to conceive children. Katie has a new job as her mother’s assistant at ‘Lets get hitched’. Her first wedding job looks like it’s going to be very interesting. The ‘sluts and studs’ hen’s night leads Katie to say the most epic lines of the season. ‘I’m Katie fucking Fitch. Who the fuck are you?’ Not only does Katie mourn the child she’ll never have but also deals with becoming homeless. Will Katie find the happiness she truly deserves?

Freddie’s episode is the most intense and dark Skins has ever had. It has always been complicated for Effy from the first time we were introduced to her as Tony Stonem’s younger mute sister and from there it’s only gotten more complicated. Freddie is failing college because he has been having too much of a good time with his drugs and sexathon. Freddie’s mother killed herself and this causes him to look after Effy as she has a breakdown. Freddie realises he can’t give Effy the help she needs after he finds her in the bathroom with her wrists cut.

The light heartedness of JJ’s episode is just what is needed after five intense episodes. JJ decides to go after the girl he works with. JJ takes Lara out to a pub and this is where we see who Emily has become friends with. JJ gets the girl, JJ loses the girl and JJ must win her back. What better way to win back the girl of his dreams then to serenade her with a ukulele. It is a grand gesture of romance for JJ and like he said ‘no one is just anything to me, I’m all or nothing’. Not only does JJ get the girl but also an instant family baby included.

We see Effy return home from the hospital she has been in with the help from her councilor John Foster. This new Effy is controlled by a set regime that includes pills, sleep, reading, walking and seeing Freddie. All the gang receive their A level results and go out to celebrate the beginning of their life after college. Foster wont let anything or anyone stand in the way of him and Effy. Even thought Cook has broken out of jail it’s the grown up version that talks Freddie into staying. Freddie goes to Foster’s house to tell him to stay the fuck away from Effy. Blood streaks the windows, as Foster attacks Freddie with a bat. Is Freddie really dead?

Most of the season left us with more questions than answers but will the finale resolve them all. We finally see Naomi declare her love for Emily. Thomas is following Panda to Harvard. Naomi and Emily are finally back together. Katie is boyfriendless but seems happy. JJ still has the girl and the baby. Effy is still lost as she was back in season 1. Freddie is nowhere to be seen. Cook is still on the run from the police.

The final episode ended with a dramatic portray of the Cook we have all loved from the start of season 3. Not only does he find out the kind of monster we all knew John Foster to be but he does what he does best and that’s looking out for his friends. Cook becomes enraged with emotions over the death of his best friend. He and scream ‘I’m Cook’ at Foster before the screen goes black.

Not only did the season start with a death but it also ended with a death. Skins being Skins we all know that not everyone is going to live happily ever after.
