Sponsor a homeless childs room with Centre Point

Posted by Kathryn Prescott on 08 May 2011 | 0 comments

I know I've posted a lot of charity things on here recently, but this one really is amazing. For 40p a day (twelve pounds a month) you can sponsor a room at Centre Point, a housing centre for homeless young people which takes in homeless children, gives them a safe warm room for up to two years whilst also giving them the tools they need not just to survive in the world once they leave, but to succeed in it. They teach the children how to cook for themselves, handle their finances, use computer software and provide courses in many areas of profession.

For someone who has usually played witness to abuse, violence, neglect and severe loneliness they provide a lifeline and for many are the difference between a secure happy life and one of abuse, crime and neglect. This is not just throwing money at a problem. Once you sponsor a room you will be sent a letter telling you who is staying in your room and a bit about them. You will receive regular updates (if you wish) about their progress and can log in online at any time to check up on it. This is such a worthwhile course. Anyone who can remember their late childhood/teen years can remember how difficult it seemed to be at some points, and most of us were lucky enough to have had relatively secure childhoods, I cant even begin to imagine what these children have been through. Imagine how many rooms we could make available to homeless children if everyone who reads this sponsors one.
