Hey, just so you've got an update, here are some photos from Barcelona- I had such an amazing time eating and drinking amazing food and wine (including vegan salami), listening to jazz music whilst watching pretty insane male flamenco dancing, getting lost in the Gothic quarter and re-establishing my caffeine addiction (this time for turkish coffe- if your haven't tried it you should, it's so good!). Helsinki is a stark comparrison but was equally enthralling, so calm and beautiful, but still very city-like. I can't wait to go back. We had dinner here-
If you live in Helsinki I'd say it is definitely worth a visit, it's in an old fort on an island and is generally a really great experience if you want to experience great Finnish food.
Anyway hope you enjoy the photos, they aren't the best as I don't have my other memory card with me and haven't editted any of them yet but I hope you like them anyway. If anyone has any tips or places to go in Helsinki for when I'm next there let me know.

P.S. Has anyone read Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke?
wonderful photos! :) You both were soooooo beautiful and gorgeous! And I love your clothes :) Hey, do u know where's that Megans shirt from what she wore when u were in the mall? That shirt under that denim thing :)
Any particular recommendations from Barcelona? I'm going there next month, where was the Jazz bar?
Also, does Oli have some sort of Scottish twin, he looks creepily like my boyfriend.
'P.S. Has anyone read Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke'
Yes, I love Rilke :)
My favourite poem:
I found a english translation but the orginal german version is of course a million times better ;)
-His vision, from the constantly passing bars,
has grown so weary that it cannot hold
anything else. It seems to him there are
a thousand bars; and behind the bars, no world.
As he paces in cramped circles, over and over,
the movement of his powerful soft strides
is like a ritual dance around a center
in which a mighty will stands paralyzed.
Only at times, the curtain of the pupils
lifts, quietly--. An image enters in,
rushes down through the tensed, arrested muscles,
plunges into the heart and is gone. -

PS. Have you read 'Reverence for Life: The Ethics of Albert Schweitzer for the Twenty-First Century' or anything else from or about Albert Schweitzer?
He is one of my biggest 'role model'!
That second picture is really cute! Helsinki is really small city compared to metropolises like London, but there is plenty to do at least for a weekend. The sea is mesmerizing, so I would recommend a cruise on the coast or to Suomenlinna, which is even more impressive than Särkänlinna. Good places to get a great view over the city are also the Observatory Hill and Ferris Wheel in Linnanmäki. If you want to get to know Finnish culture, there is a cool outdoor museum in Seurasaari and traditional Finnish food is sold in the Old Market Hall, atmosphere in which is really unique. From the museums I would recommend Kiasma (Museum of Contemporary art) and The Finnish Museum of Photography.
Helsinki is a great city but insanely expensive! Get the ferry to Tallinn if you get bored, it only takes a couple of hours. It's beautiful and really different (the beer is good as well) x
Don't be offended but weird Q Flora lol,its probably a private one and people are probably gonna look for her on there now lol.
Nice pics Kat, Oli looks just like my mums friends son lol, glad u had a good time :D
First I have to say: it's great to heat that someone likes finnish food :D I mean there's so many people who have said that finnish food is awful. I'm Finnish and hell yeah I love finnish food :)
And here's some tips and places yuo should go in Helsinki and Finland. Like everybody has noticed Helsinki is not big, but it's full of action. I would say if you liked, you know, just hang around etc. You must try Suomenlinna. It's sea fortress. Many people just take a boat and go to the picnic. Also I have to mention Kiasma it's museum of modern art.. very nice place. We don't have here, like, unique sights. But the nature of Finland is something you won't see anywhere else. Finland is full of lakes and rivers. In the middle part of Finland there's loads and loads little citys like: Tampere, Jyväskylä etc. They are really amazing in summer time.
Winter's are also really amazing. We have snow everywhere in Finland. Somewhere there might be even like 1 meter snow. In lapland (northern part of finland) you can see northern lights, so much snow, you can go to sauna :D everything is possible in Finland !!
I read Letters to a Young Poet last year for one of my classes at University. Really interesting stuff and I can't believe other people have actually read it too! It's one of the few books that I've kept after finishing school.
Barcelona is really beautiful. If you come to Spain again, I recommend you visit Extremadura in spring. Mountains, rivers, all green with beautiful places (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1538387060152
How long were you here then? There's some much to see but you definitely need some helsinkian to guide you.
All the best attractions are beyond the downtown borders. Something you can find from my photoblog: http://myhelsinkicity.blogspot.com(although I have not been updating it for whole summer. Maybe I have more time in winter again.)
Next time you are coming here, be in touch! I would be very happy to give you some info for the best spots to visit!
